TIMO EHMKE

WINNER OF THE 45th MINI PRINT INTERNATIONAL OF CADAQUÉS, 2025

Born in 1971, Timo Ehmke lives and works in Lüneburg, Germany. From 2020 to 2022, he attended courses on relief and intaglio printing techniques at the Ikarus Art School in Lüneburg, Germany. He also completed several drawing courses at the Ikarus Art School in Lüneburg from 2023 to 2025.

Timo enjoys experimenting with motifs, which he creates using both relief printing (linocuts) and intaglio printing (etchings). Both techniques have their own strengths and unique characteristics. With linocut printing, motifs can be clearly defined by color, but gradual gradations are more difficult to achieve. This often results in distinct areas and rather rigid contours. Intaglio printing is more complex overall, but also more flexible. Here, Timo often uses aquatint technique to achieve varying degrees of color depth. He also employs the technique of line etching (in the style of Goya). In both techniques, he often uses multiple printing plates to create diverse color gradations and overlaps within a single print.

His prints are produced in the printmaking atelier of the cultural association Alltagskultur e.V. in Lüneburg, Germany.

“I often find my motifs in the landscape of northern Germany. I’m particularly drawn to natural scenes of fields or the sea that offer strong color impressions. But everyday objects and impressions of daily life are also interesting subjects for me, especially when they involve color gradations and complex reflections of light.”
