WINNER OF THE 43rd MINI PRINT INTERNATIONAL OF CADAQUÉS, 2023
Born in 1962 in Montreal, Canada, Manon Denis has a degree in visual arts from the University of Sherbrooke. She continued her training in various artists’ studios. Since 2014, she has been a regular active member of the Engramme workshop in Quebec where she directs her artistic research towards printing techniques including engraving, which is added to the drawing in Indian ink.
It is in the silence and the poetry of words that her creative work takes its source. From this universe, she explore through gesture the multiple structural possibilities of the sign, the trace and the imprint within a given space, the paper. From her desire for simplicity, she approach paper as a material of inspiration in her creative process by using its fragility, its transparency as much as its manageability. A dialogue that nourishes her experiences, through the intuitive sensitivity of ink-paper mediums.
Thus a process of going back and forth between the form and the repetitive gesture makes it possible to be in relation with slowness, time and silence. Create the little to capture the whole.
Her works have been exhibited in Quebec, Ontario, Argentina, England, U.S.A, Armenia, Luxembourg, Barcelone, France and are part of the Loto Québec Collection, Gauthier & Co collection, Art University Yerevan, Graver maintenant France, AMAC Chamalières France.
